The first American rules were an 1825 reprint of the 1800 English rules. English Vingt-Un later developed into an American variant in its own right which was renamed blackjack around 1899. Double down if your two cards add up to 10, and the dealer is showing a 9 or smaller card. Stand if your hand is a hard 17 or higher, meaning that an A has not been used to reach that total. Any Pairs is an optional side bet offered on certain Blackjack tables. Any Pairs bet wins if the first two cards dealt to a playing area are a pair and loses if they are not a pair. If you and the dealer have the same totals, you have a stand-off. In the event that the dealer has Blackjack, you lose unless you also have Blackjack, in which case you have a stand-off.
Before the betting starts, the dealer shuffles cuts the deck and exposes one card as ‘Joker’. There are two betting sides which are named ‘Andar’ and ‘Bahar’. You must correctly guess which side the ‘Joker’ card will come to win the bet. All winning bets are paid even money except for Blackjack, which pays three to two. When a push occurs, the Player keeps the original bet.
Substituting an “H17” rule with an “S17” rule in a game benefits the player, decreasing the house edge by about 0.2%. If the dealer does not get Blackjack the Insurance bet is lost and the game continues as normal. Most casinos will not allow “cash plays” wagers anymore, so you will have to let the dealer exchange your money for casino chips. You do this by simply walking up to the table a placing your money on the felt of the table. Do not hand your money to the dealer (they won’t take it).
If you elect to double, you place an additional bet up to equal to your original bet. You will then receive one additional card on that hand. All bets must be placed before any cards are dealt and you can only place one Any Pairs bet for each betting area in the round of play. If the first two cards dealt to the Blackjack hand are a pair, you win!
